Woman Adopts A Wolf Cub From A Shelter Because It Wouldn’t Have Survived In The Wild

A wolf hybrid named Kira was born in the “Yarye Vetrov” kennel in Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk. Her domesticated wolf mother Yesenia was taken from the kennel to a family, but people could not cope with raising a wolf, and they brought the wolf back. Later, Yesenia gave birth to wolf cubs, but unfortunately, she did not accept them – on the third day she stopped feeding the cubs.

“Kira’s mom used to live with a family, but they didn’t manage to take care of her and she ended up in a nursery. She no longer trusts people. Kira was born in the same nursery. If released into the wild, there’s a high probability she will die since no one taught her to hunt. Kira’s mother abandoned her babies when they were 3 days old and in the nursery, so they were fed by hand. And I took her away as soon as Kira got stronger and also first fed her with milk.”

It was clear that the cubs, Kira and her two brothers, would not survive in the wild. The cubs were fed with milk, and when they grew stronger, Alida Nasyrova decided to take Kira with her. The little wolf cub was 28 days old at the time. Raising a wolf cub was difficult and time-consuming, but the girl managed to raise the little wolf cub into a well-mannered beauty. She studied information about the care and treatment of wolves, took care of Kira, taught her socialization, and introduced her to people, children, and dogs.

“I took her from the nursery when she was 28 days old. She is smart but very stubborn. When making decisions, she focuses on herself, not me. From the very beginning, I began the process of her socialization. She saw a huge number of dogs, people, and children. We walked in different places so that she could study different smells, hear new sounds. Wolves have an innate neophobia, a fear of everything new. This is a very difficult process, long and tedious, but it is necessary so that Kira can live with me in an urban environment and feel comfortable.”

Kira grew up to be an obedient and well-behaved wolf. According to her owner, Kira has a stable and strong mentality, she doesn’t respond to aggression from other dogs, and does not provoke conflicts. She is very careful with children – if she feels that a child is afraid of her, she doesn’t even approach him. By the way, Kira lives together with Alida and her 7-year-old son, and they get along very well.

Passers-by react to Kira with curiosity, ask to be photographed, ask Alida if it is not dangerous to keep a wolf at home, and ask about the peculiarities of her upbringing. However, there is a lot of heckling online as well – many people criticize the owner without really getting into the essence of Kira’s story. Despite the fact that she is 75% wolf, she is raised and obedient even more than some dogs.

“In real life, people react quite normally, because Kira is very friendly and doesn’t instill fear in people. But on the internet, people are both angry and stupid, they write different things. Especially after a series of reports about us, there were a lot of reports that I was acting very stupidly since I kept a predatory animal at home.”
