The “World’s Loneliest Gorilla” Has Been Living in Shopping Mall Cage for 30 Years
A gorilla named Bua, who lives in a Thai zoo, has been called the saddest gorilla in the world. This zoo is located in a shopping center in Bangkok, and the monkey has lived in a cage for 33 years, never seeing sunlight or green grass. International communities have been trying for years to give her freedom.
She has become one of the zoo’s popular residents, but all this time she has had one characteristic: a sad face. Bois was nicknamed “the saddest gorilla in the world.
Living conditions at the zoo leave nothing to be desired. The zoo on the fourth floor of the Pata Pinklao mall is small, and the gorilla cannot live there. For years, activists and animal advocates have asked the zoo owners to move the gorilla to a more suitable location – but they have refused. Even now, the owners refuse to move Boa to the zoo to spend the rest of her life there, in the open air and green grass.
The gorilla’s owner had asked $800,000 for him, and organizations were willing to provide the money – however, zoo management abruptly refused any negotiations to sell the animal. They insist that the gorilla is well cared for and not stressed.
But the international community is still willing to fight for Boa’s freedom from the cage. Gorillas can live 35 to 40 years in the wild, and up to 50 years in captivity so the sad gorilla still has a chance.
