This stray cat and her little kittens were picked up on the streets of Butler County, USA. People noticed right away that the cat was special – she had a deformed muzzle. The entire feline family was brought to the Butler County Humane Society.
There, the family was welcomed and the mother cat was named Onyx. Her cleft lip was congenital and didn’t require any intervention. The feature didn’t affect her quality of life in any way. However, it became an obstacle when they started looking for owners for this unique beauty.

“I showed cats to many people who wanted to adopt, and there wasn’t one that anyone wanted her,” Houk said. “It was heartbreaking, but at the same time, I was thrilled knowing my time would come and I could take her home.I instantly fell in love with her the first time I saw her,” Houk told The Dodo. “I have two special needs children and I just have a special place in my heart for anyone with special needs. There was just something so beautiful about her sweet face.”
When Onyx’s kittens were given to families, they began to look for owners for the mom cat. However, no one wanted to take her because of her special appearance, until one of the shelter’s employees, named Cindy, became interested in her. The woman became so fond of the cat that she decided to take her in. Because of her unique face, most people seemed to shy away from wanting to adopt Onyx — except for Cindy Houk.

“She never stops talking,” Houk said. “I absolutely love it! She is extremely playful. She is happy first thing in the morning when she sees us. It is such a good feeling. We have five other cats, all rescues, that she has to play with, plus a big, fun dog. We plan on spoiling Onyx for the rest of her life. To my family, she is absolutely perfect!”

At the moment Onyx has been living at her new owner’s house for a few weeks now. She became friends with her children and everyone loves her very much. This unique and surprisingly kind cat won the heart of every member of the family. Thank you to the kind people who rescued her!
