The Andes and rocky cliffs of South America are home to an adorable rodent, the viscacha. The viscash has one distinctive feature – this cute animal looks tired or sad all the time. For this, it has even been called the “totem of the year 2021.”
The viscacha or viscacha is a rodent of the chinchilla family that lives mostly in the mountains of South America. Because of their large paws, these creatures resemble a rabbit, but in fact – in terms of body structure they are more like huge mice.
They have one peculiarity which is their permanently tired and sad look as if they urgently need to sleep. This condition turned out to be familiar to many – on Twitter, many users called the viscacha “the totem animal of 2021,” associating its muzzle expression with the pandemic and the problems of recent years.
These rodents spend most of their time resting on rocks and grooming their thick fur. They can weigh up to three pounds. By the way, you can tell her mood by her tail – an elongated tail signals anxiety or stress, and a twisted tail shows relaxation.
Whiskers are very fast, and excellent climbers. In addition, the family of these rodents has a large set of cries and whistles, which they use, for example, to inform each other of danger in case of an approaching predator, in order to have time to hide in their burrows.
