When a family from Canada went outside, they found three little kittens, about a month old, at their door. The kittens were tiny and weak. They needed care, but their mother cat had left them alone.
The family knew the cat might come back for the kittens, so they waited a while for her. But the mother never came back, so they took the babies into the house to care for them.

“The brother and sister pair arrived in our care, and they were in rough shape. We named them Maui (ginger) and Athena (gray) and started them on treatment and a round-the-clock feeding schedule,” Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow.

Unfortunately, one kitten turned out to be so weak that it couldn’t survive. The family began to sensitively care for the two remaining babies to save the little lives. At the same time, they called the Chatons Orphelins shelter to get the kittens into foster care.
The shelter agreed to take the babies, and they were immediately sent to the shelter of one of the volunteers. Although the brother and sister were very weak, and half the normal age at 5 weeks, they did not leave each other’s side.

“It is amazing that they made it this far. They were so malnourished but continued to fight to live.”

“The kittens spent a lot of time sleeping to allow their bodies to heal and regain strength. The brother and sister stuck to each other like glue, and were on top of each other when they napped,” Celine added.
The brother and sister were inseparable. They tailed each other, and if one went somewhere, the other would restlessly search for him. The foster mother nursed the little ones by the hour and cared for them sensitively.
The babies proved to be brave fighters. After a week, they began to actively gain weight, play more and more, and still wouldn’t leave each other’s side. An incredibly strong bond appeared between them.

The boy was nicknamed Maui and his sister Athena. Maui was weaker than his sister, but her energy and activity gave him confidence. Together they were a strong team.

“Maui who was underdeveloped, is finally catching up in size. He is still smaller but has a full belly and a lot of energy,” Celine said.

After a while, the kittens were truly transformed. They were full of life and very grateful for the rescue. Soon they would be looking for a family for these little cuties and, of course, the shelter workers want to give them away together. Let’s wish the little brother and sister a wonderful home!
