Kitten is So Happy to Walk and Run on All Four Paws for the First Time

Residents of the Canadian city of Montreal noticed two small kittens on the street – a brother and a sister. The frightened little ones were wandering alone, looking for food. People immediately saw that one of them was special – the baby had deformed hind legs, and he moved on his front legs.

“Rubbix’s hind legs were twisted at 180 degrees and his paws went the other way. He moved around using his front legs and back knees,” Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow.

The kittens were taken to the local Chatons Orphelins shelter. The staff took care of the babies and determined that the red-haired kitten had a congenital deformity of his legs. In spite of this, he behaved like a regular kitty – he moved around boldly, played and fooled around with his sister.
He was named Rubbix and his sister was named Boo. The babies spent a lot of time together, exploring, playing, and thanking their foster parents. Soon the question arose about the fate of Rubbix, and the vets decided that the best way out was a special surgery that would put him back on his feet.

“The earlier the operation was done, the more chances he would have for good results,” Celine shared with Love Meow. “As he grew, the malformation would worsen because of the tension in his tendons. We want to give him every chance to improve his quality of life and have a normal (pain-free) life that he deserves.”

The doctors were certain that the sooner his feet were adjusted, the easier he would recover and start walking. The baby had the surgery, and he recovered quickly enough. Within a day he was walking on four legs for the first time – even though he had casts on, but he was immensely happy about it!

“Rubbix has been wearing external fixators for several weeks and his legs have improved greatly. The progress he’s made is surprising to see,” Celine shared with Love Meow. “Rubbix is sweet, cuddly and very playful. He loves jumping and running, which are new to him. The little guy was lucky to have his operation at such a young age, and it gave him the best chance for it to work,” Celine added.
Every day his mobility improved and Rabbix explored the house more and more. After a few weeks, his casts were removed, and now he is learning to walk fully. This kitten is a real fighter!
Rubbix and his sister are now 14 weeks old and when they are a little older, permanent homes will be found for them. Thank you to the kind people who rescued them!
