Six months ago, American Chris Garrison adopted a puppy named Amaretto from a shelter. Little did he know at the time, the little boy would soon save a little life. Chris went for a bike ride in the woods that day, and he took the dog with him.
As they were riding along the trail, the pup suddenly stopped. Something in the woods caught his attention, and he listened warily. Then he led his owner to where he heard the sound.
“She started paying a lot of attention to the woods to our left,” Garrison told The Dodo. “I got off the bike and heard the meowing.”
Standing up from his bike, Chris immediately heard a thin cat’s squeak and realized that there was a kitten hiding somewhere nearby. He followed the dog, and the dog led him to a tree where the little fluffy was crying. The frightened kitten was sitting high up in the tree and did not know what to do.
“I cradled [the kitten] in my arm. She immediately started purring, which was my first clue that she’d had plenty of human contact before,” Garrison said. “I also didn’t see or hear any other cats around, which lead me to believe that she was abandoned out there.”
Chris immediately gently pulled the crumb off the tree. It turned out to be a little girl who started purring in gratitude – as if she knew she had nothing more to fear. Amaretto watched excitedly the whole time, worried about the fluffy one’s condition.
The guy carried the kitty to the car and then handed her over to the local shelter. The little one was very grateful and happy to finally be in safety – she purred the whole way while Amaretto watched her curiously from the back seat.
At the shelter, the kitty was given the nickname Fuji. Fuji is fully healthy and they would soon be looking for someone to take her in. Thanks to Amaretto the dog and his caring owner, she is now in good hands.
“I’m happy that I have such a smart dog that knew something was different in the woods,” Garrison said. “I’m proud of her and think she’s a hero.”
