Elephant Mom Fought For 11 Hours To Pull Her Baby Free From Muddy Well

A mother’s love for her child, even in animals, is the most unconditional and powerful. This touching story will once again give proof of a mother’s love and protection.

In a small village in India happened the following strange scene: an elephant tried hard digging a hole for 11 hours in a row, from sunrise to sunset. First, she used her trunk as a shovel, and then her feet were included in the process too.

Unfortunately the frantic mother elephant unintentionally made matters worse by pushing more mud into the well and almost smothering the baby, which was trapped from 9pm until 8am the following morning. That’s when the villagers knew they had to help the elephant, who was gradually losing her strength, but not hope.

Help: Villagers from a nearby village in the Chatra district of India come to the young elephant's aid by removing soil at the top of the well

Jitendra Tiwari, who helped with the rescue, said: “We chopped off a few banana trucks and put it near the well so that the mother elephant moved away for sometime. The plan worked and we used the time remove the heap of sand deposited near the well that was making it difficult for her to rescue the baby.”

At last, all of mom elephant’s efforts were worth it! Her child was safe! It was such an heartwarming scene for the villager to see them walking away together. The animals were definitely happy and relaxed after such a happy ending.
