When the owner got the call that her dog had been found, at first she thought it was a prank. Her dog had been missing for five years, and the family no longer hoped to see it again.

“My initial thought was, ‘Where’s my million dollars and my cruise?’” Moore-Malmstrom told The Dodo. “’Somebody’s scamming me.’”

Five years ago, the Malmstrom family from the United States found their dog lost. Their beloved dog, named Sheba, was missing. The owners speculated that their dog had been stolen from the yard where he was walking on the day he went missing. The family tried to find the dog, but the search was unsuccessful.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, you have my dog, you have our baby,’” Moore-Malmstrom said.
It had been a long five years, and the family had already lost all hope. Until the owner, named Stephanie, recently received a call from the shelter. She couldn’t believe what the shelter staff said until the last minute. It wasn’t until a video call when she was shown the dog, that she realized it was her Sheba.

An animal welfare officer found Sheba on the street. She was wandering alone and was being fed by a teenage boy. The officer decided to scan the dog for a chip and found a chip with the owner’s information on it. The dog was found 1000 kilometers away from her home. No one knows how she ended up there, but for the owners, it wasn’t important. The main thing was that Sheba was alive and well!
Pilots N Paws transported Sheba by helicopter, after which the owners finally met their pet. Sheba immediately recognized them and rushed to kiss them.

Despite spending five years apart, Sheba still loves her family and it’s completely mutual. She is now happy again. Such a touching story!
